1. Matsyavatara (ಮತ್ಸ್ಯ ಅವತಾರ)

There are ten forms of Lord Vishnu:

  1. Matsya
  2.  Kurma
  3. Varaha
  4. Narasimha
  5. Vamana
  6. Parshuram
  7. Lord Rama
  8.  Lord Krishna/Balarama
  9.  Buddha/Lord Krishna
  10.  Kalki

This is the story of Matsyavatara- the first of the 10 avatars of Lord Vishnu as per Hindu religion. The Vedas, the Hindus’ sacred book, was once stolen by Asuras and hidden in the sea. Simultaneously, there was a noble king, Manu, famous for his noble service. A little fish came upon his palm and talked unexpectedly to him when he was offering prayers in a river. The fish asked him to save it from the river’s other giant creatures. The kind King put it in a pot and brought it along. The fish had grown out and continued to flourish wherever it was placed by the next morning. It was placed in the sea, but it grew there, too. 2. Sage Agastya (ಅಗಸ್ತ್ಯ ಋಷಿ)

This is a mythological story about a Rishi who once drank the entire ocean and made a mountain bow down to him. Would you believe that he balanced the entire earth and had a river in his little jar called Kamandala. The Rishi is talked about in Vedas and Puranas, he is considered to be one of the powerful Rishis in Tamil culture. He is said to have written the first Tamil Grammer book. Did you know that he was born in a pot? Astonishing! It is also said that when Lord Shiva and Devi Parvati were getting married, all the devas, rishis, animals went to Mount Kailash to see them. This caused a great imbalance and the earth tilted to one side. Shiva then called the powerful Rishi to had the mystic power to bring the earth back to its feet. Agastya! 3. Samudra Manthan (ಸಮುದ್ರ ಮಂಥನ)

This is a mythological story about an epic battle between gods and demons which resulted in them joining hands to extract elixir from the great ocean as per Indian epics. The whole thing was supervised by none other than Lord Vishnu, who also took an avatar of a beautiful maiden Mohini to ensure the gods get their due and demons are not able to lay their hands on elixir. But before the elixir, there were other things that came out of the churning process and Lord Shiva has to step in to save the world from the disaster. 4. Varaha Avatara (ವರಾಹಾ ಅವತಾರ್)

Today we bring to you the story of 3rd incarnation of Lord Vishnu in the form of a wild boar Varaha. In this form, Lord Vishnu saved the Earth from the trenches of the deep ocean and held it on his tusks when demons tried to destroy it.
