Eastern Asia

China, Japan, Mongolia, North Korea, and South Korea make up Eastern Asia, which has a population of about 1.7 billion people. China, the world’s most populated country, Mongolia the least populous country in Eastern Asia and,  North Korea, the world’s most isolated country adds up to this region.

1. China

China is the third-largest country in the world by area. It is a country in East Asia and constituents places like Mongolia, Tibet, and many other regions. The capital of China is Beijing and some prominent cities are Shanghai and Shenzhen. China shares its land border with fourteen countries: Afghanistan, Bhutan, India, Kazakhstan, North Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Mongolia, Myanmar (Burma), Nepal, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Vietnam. All Pandas are Chinese, which means any Panda, found in any other countries in the world, has been given to them by China. China is famous for its historical “The Great Wall Of China”.

2. Japan

Japan is also known as the  “Land of the Rising Sun”. The country is known for Mount Fuji, calligraphy, bullet trains, and origami. Japan is an island country located in East Asia and lies in the North West Pacific Ocean. Japan is bounded to the west by the Sea of Japan (East Sea), and the Sea of China in the West. It has its maritime borders by many countries in the world, like, China, North Korea, South Korea, the Philippines, Russia, and Taiwan. The capital of Japan is Tokyo and the language spoken here is Japanese. Japan is also famous for the production of cars.

3. Mongolia

Mongolia is one of the coldest countries in the world and is home to the endangered species of snow leopards. Mongolia is famous for its Gobi desert, a large desert region in East Asia. Mongolia is also considered the world’s second-largest landlocked country. It is sandwiched between Russia to the North and China to the South. The capital is Ulaanbaatar and the official language is Mongolian. Mongolia has proof that dinosaurs used to roam around in the Gobi Desert. About 40% of the population are nomads. It is also said the ice-cream got invented here. The founding father of Mongolia is the famous ruler Chinggis Khaan.

4. North Korea

North Korea is one of the leading manufacturers of seafood. North Korea is also known as the Democratic of the People’s Republic of Korea. It is a country in East Asia that covers the Northern part of the Korean Peninsula. The capital of North Korea is Pyongyang and the language is Korean. The other countries in the world that covers North Korea are China, Russia, South Korea, and Japan (maritime border). In North Korea, It is mandatory for both men and women to serve the military.

5. South Korea

South Korea is a place that is a leading country in the world in internet connectivity. The country is known as the Republic of Korea and its capital is Seoul. The language spoken in South Korea is Korean. South Korea lies in the Southern part of the Korean peninsula and shares its land border with North Korea. The maritime borders are with Japan, China, and Russia. The very unique thing about South Korea is when children are born here, they are immediately considered to be one year old. This country is also famous for its K-Pop culture and is popular for the K-dramas. The national game of South Korea is Taekwondo. 

Southeast Asia

Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, East Timor, and Vietnam are among the 11 countries that make up Southeast Asia. The population of the subregion is expected to be 673 million people. Indonesia is the largest and most populous country in Southeast Asia.

6. Brunei

Brunei, also known as the “Abode of Peace” is one of the Southeast Asian countries in the world. It is a small nation on the island of Borneo. It is surrounded by the country of Malaysia and the South China Sea. The capital of Brunei is Bandar Seri Begawan. This country has a Sultan who also acts as the Prime Minister of the nation. Though it is a small country but is the fifth richest country in the world because of its oil and gas industries. The country is famous for its beautiful architecture which is inspired by Islam. 

7. Cambodia

Cambodia, is one of the Southeast Asian countries in the world. It is also known as the “Land of Smiles” and the “Kingdom of Cambodia”. Cambodia is a small country bordered by Vietnam to the east, Laos in the northeast, Thailand in the west and northwest, and has a coastline at the Gulf of Thailand in the southwest. The capital of this country is Phnom Penh. Cambodia is house to the world’s largest religious site by area, Angkor Wat, a Buddhist temple.

8. Indonesia

Indonesia is one of the most popular countries in the world. It is a country in Southeast Asia and Oceania. It lies between the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean and has more than 17,000 islands. Its capital is Jakarta. It shares its land borders with Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, and East Timor and maritime borders with Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Palau, and Australia. The country is also home to the world’s largest lizard called Komodo Dragon and has 139 volcanoes. 

9. Laos

Laos translated to “Land of a Million Elephants”. Laos had proven ancient life in the country. It is one of the Southeast Asian countries in the world. It is a landlocked country that is both by China in the North, Northeast & East by Vietnam, Cambodia to the South, Thailand to the West, and Myanmar to the Northwest. The capital of Laos is Vientiane and the languages spoken here are Lao and French. The country is a popular archeological spot. It is also a country of coffee lovers, which is the biggest export business of Laos. Laos has the largest waterfall in Southeast Asia. 

10. Malaysia

Malaysia is made of two parts separated by the South China Sea. It is one of the Southeast Asian countries in the world and is a former British Colony. The capital of Malaysia is Kuala Lumpur and the official language is Malay. Malaysia has direct borders with Thailand and Brunei. The maritime borders are Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines. This country is home to the world’s largest know cave chamber in the world. The multicultural place is one of the most visited countries in Southeast Asia. 

11. Myanmar/ Burma

Burma, also known as Myanmar, is one of the Southeast Asian countries in the world. It is bordered by India and Bangladesh to its Northwest, China to the Northeast, Laos, and Thailand to the East and Southeast. The capital of this country is Naypyidaw and the language spoken there is Burmese. Burman is known for its precious stones and gems. There are a lot of tourist places in this country of diverse cultures. 

12. Philippines

Philippines was named after Philip II of Spain. The Philippines officially the Republic of the Philippines is the second-largest archipelago in the world. The capital of this country is Manila and the official language is Filipino and English. The entire country is made up of islands and there are approximately 7,641 islands. The Philippines shares its maritime border with  Taiwan to the north, Japan to the northeast, Palau to the east, Indonesia to the south, Malaysia and Brunei to the southwest, Vietnam to the west, and China to the northwest. This country produces ample coconuts and owing to its location on the world map, it is prone to Typhoons.

13. Singapore

Singapore officially the Republic of Singapore is a sovereign island city-state in maritime Southeast Asia. The country is the Straits of Malacca to the west, the Riau Islands (Indonesia) to the south, and the South China Sea to the east. Singapore is one of the smallest countries in the world. There are four official languages of Singapore: English, Malay, Chinese, and Tamil. Singapore is a city-state made of 63 islands. The national anthem of this country is written in their dollar note in micro texts. Shipping is the biggest business of Singapore and Singaporeans do not chewing gum in public places as it is banned.

14. Thailand

Thailand is officially the Kingdom of Thailand and formerly known as Siam is a country in Southeast Asia. The name of this country can be translated to “Land of the Free” and is one of the countries in the world that has never been colonized by any other country. The capital of Thailand is Bangkok and the official language is Thai. is bordered to the north by Myanmar and Laos, to the east by Laos and Cambodia, to the south by the Gulf of Thailand and Malaysia, and to the west by the Andaman Sea and the southern extremity of Myanmar. Its maritime boundaries include Vietnam in the Gulf of Thailand to the southeast, and Indonesia and India on the Andaman Sea to the southwest. Orchid is the national flower, and the world’s smallest and largest mammal can be found here.

15. East Timor

East Timor is an island that has rich marine life and coral reefs around it. It is one of the Southeast Asian countries in the world which occupies half of the Taimur island. The capital of East Taimur is Dili and the language spoken here is Portuguese. The country has maritime borders with Australia and Indonesia. Most of this country is mountainous and the highest peak is Mount Tatamailau. It was a Portuguese colony and got independence in 1975.

16. Vietnam

Vietnam is officially called the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. It is a Southeast Asian country and the easternmost country on the Indochinese Peninsula. Vietnam shares its land borders with China to the north, and Laos and Cambodia to the west. It shares its maritime borders with Thailand through the Gulf of Thailand, and the Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia through the South China Sea. The capital of Vietnam is Hanoi and the official language is Vietnamese. The people of Vietnam believe that they are descendants of Dragons. The country is the lead exporter of Cashews, has the largest cave in the world, Hang Son Doong.

Western Asia

Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Cyprus, Georgia, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, State of Palestine, Syria, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen are among the 18 nations that make up Western Asia. Western Asia has a population of around 282 million people.

17. Armenia

Armenia is officially called the Republic of Armenia. It is a landlocked country located in the Armenian Highlands of Western Asia. It is bordered by  Turkey to the west, Georgia to the north, the Lachin corridor under a Russian peacekeeping force, and Azerbaijan to the east, and Iran and the Azerbaijani exclave of Nakhchivan to the south. The capital of Armenia is Yerevan and the official language is Armanese. Armenia is one of the 6 ancient surviving countries in the world. The first-ever church was built in Armenia. Apricots that we eat are called Armenian apples in this country.

The national flag of Armenia consists of three horizontal bands of equal width, red on the top, blue in the middle, and orange on the bottom.

18. Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan is officially called the Republic of Azerbaijan. It is located at the crossroads of Eastern Europe and Western Asia, it is bounded by the Caspian Sea to the east, the Russian republic of Dagestan to the north, Georgia to the northwest, Armenia and Turkey to the west, and Iran to the south. The capital of this country is Baku and the official language is Azerbaijani. Azerbaijan is also known as “The land of Fire” which is the former Soviet Republic, in Azerbaijan. People here love having their tea with jam. Horses are considered to be heroes in Azerbaijan. This is also home to the burning mountain, which always keeps burning. 

The national flag of Azerbaijan is a horizontal tricolor, three equally sized fesses of bright blue, red, and green, with a white crescent and an eight-pointed star in the center.

19. Bahrain

Asia is a huge continent and is divided into many sections: Southeast Asia, South Asia, Northwest Asia, and Near East which included the West Asian countries. Bahrain is one of the Near East countries which is also known as the “Kingdom of Bahrain”. It exactly lies in the Persian Gulf and comprises the archipelago of 51 natural islands and 33 artificial islands. The capital of Bahrain is Manama. 92% of this country is a desert and has no land borders with any other countries in the world. It is a leading producer of Date Palms.

20. Cyprus

An island nation in the Mediterranean sea, Republic of Cyprus is also known as playground of the Gods, it is believed that Greek Goddess  Aphrodite was born here. The country also has water wells dating back to stone age. Cyprus is one of the only two countries which has their maps as a part of their flags.  It is the located south of Turkey; west of Syria; northwest of Lebanon, Israel and the Gaza Strip; north of Egypt; and southeast of Greece. Nicosia is the country’s capital.

21. Georgia

Lying on the crossroads of Europe and Asia, Georgia is a former Soviet Republic. The country has dense forests and 49 kinds of soil on its varied terrain. Europe’s highest permanent settlement is also in this country. It is the home to two ancient European cities. bounded to the west by the Black Sea, to the north and east by Russia, to the south by Turkey and Armenia, and to the southeast by Azerbaijan.

22. Iraq

Iraq in Arabic means deeply rooted and fertile. It is one of the western Asian countries in the world. Iraq’s capital is Bagdad, which is called “The City of Peace”. Landlocked from three sides, Iraq has a small coastline of only 58 kilometers.  Iraq is bordered by Turkey in the North, to the East by Iran, Kuwait to South-east Arabia, Jordan in the South-west, and Seria to the West. It is the land of one of the oldest civilizations Mesopotamia. The country is very rich in old reserve and heritage. 

23. Iran

In Persian, Iran means “The Land of Aryans”. This country is located in West Asia and is the second-largest producer of natural gas. Its capital is Tehran and the people residing here are either Persians or Iranians. The country shares water borders with the Persian Gulf, the Gulf of Oman, and the Caspian Sea. It has land borders with Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Pakistan, Turkey, and Turkmenistan. The country has 8 rivers flowing through this country but there is only one river on which you can ride boats. The country holds the record of producing the largest carpet.

24. Israel

Israel is a country in the middle east that boasts of various inventions like the Voice Mail. Israel stands crossroads of three continents- Asia, Europe, and Africa. Its capital is Jerusalem. The financial hub of this country is Tel Aviv. Israel has its borders with Lebanon and Syria to the north, Jordan to the east, Egypt to the southwest, and the Red Sea to the south. The most popular attraction of this country is its underwater museum.  The cherry tomatoes were created for the first time in this country. 

25. Jordan

Jordan an almost a landlocked country as it has a very small coastline of only 26 km. This country has the Dead sea, which is the lowest point on earth, 420 meters below sea level. Jordan lies at the crossroad of three continents: Asia, Africa, and Europe. The capital of this Arab country is Amman and the national language is Arabic. Jordan is bounded to the north by Syria, to the east by Iraq, to the southeast and south by Saudi Arabia, and to the west by Israel and the West Bank. Jordan is one of the oldest countries in the world and has numerous archeological sites. It has one of the world’s oldest dam and the museums have very old statues. 

26. Kuwait

Kuwait has the world’s highest-valued currency. It is one of the centuries in the world in Western Asia, though very small, but a rich country because it has the world’s sixth-largest oil reserves. The country is exactly on the Northern edge of Eastern Arabia, the tip of the Persian Gulf. The capital of this country is Kuwait city and the official language is Arabic. Kuwait is neighboured by South Arabia, Iran, and Iraq. Towards one side of the country is the coastline of the Persian Gulf. 

27. Lebanon

Lebanon is a non-desert Arab Country. Its capital Beirut is also known as “The Paris on the Middle East”. The country has the same name for 4000 years. The official language of Lebanon is Arabic and French. The country lies in Western Asia, in a region called the Levant.  It is bordered by Syria to the north and east and Israel to the south, while Cyprus lies west across the Mediterranean Sea. There is a total of 15 rivers in Lebanon that originates from the mountains of its own country. There are a lot of Cedar trees, which people believe were grown here by God himself. It is believed that Lord Jesus performed his first miracle in the country of Lebanon.

28. Oman

Oman is officially called the Sultanate of Oman. Oman is a country on the southeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula in Western Asia. The official language of this country is Arabic and the people living here are called Omani. The capital of Oman is Muscat and the countries that neighbors Oman are U.A.E to the Northwest, Saudi Arabia to the west, and Yemen to the southwest, and it shares marine borders with Iran and Pakistan. Oman is a leading producer of oil and the country is credited to produce the best breed of Arabian horses. It also has some best-skilled shipbuilders. The most unique feature of the country is the doors of every household. Every house has an ornamental and distinctive door. 

29. Qatar

The peninsular Arab country Qatar is one of those rarest places on the Earth, where you can find desert and seaside by side. It is a Middle Eastern Arab country with one land border, Saudi Arabia to the south. The capital of this country is Doha and the official language is Arabic. Qatar is one of the richest countries in the world because of its oil reserves. This country is also famous for camel racing. Historically from having pearl diving as one means of the economy to hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup, this city-sized country has lots to offer. 

30. Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia officially called the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is a Western Asia country with 95% desert contributing a vast part of the Arabian Peninsula. The capital of this Arab country is Riyadh and the official language is Arabic. It is the second-largest Arab country which is the house to holy cities fs Mecca and Medina. Saudi Arabia has its borders by Jordan & Iraq to the north, Kuwait to the north-east, Qatar, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates to the east, Oman to the southeast, and Yemen to the south and Gulf of Aqaba separate the country from Egypt and Israel in the north-west.

Saudi Arabia is the only country with both a Red Sea coast and a Persian Gulf coast. Since it is a desert country there are a lot of camels found here. Almost 100 camels are sold every day. It is a place where people love to enjoy the Camel race. The country also has the world’s largest oil reserves. 

31. Syria

Syria is officially called the Syrian Arab Republic is a country in Western Asia, bordering Lebanon to the southwest, the Mediterranean Sea to the west, Turkey to the north, Iraq to the east, Jordan to the south, and Israel to the southwest. Syria’s capital is Damascus, also known as “The Jasmine City”. The official language of the country is Arabic. One of the oldest inhabited places in the world, Syria has been one of the founding members of the United Nations. 

32. Turkey

Turkey is officially known as the Republic of Turkey. Turkey is a transcontinental country, famous for its glorious history. It partly lies in Asia and partly lies in Europe. It is bordered on its northwest by Greece and Bulgaria; north by the Black Sea; northeast by Georgia; east by Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Iran; southeast by Iraq; south by Syria and the Mediterranean Sea; and west by the Aegean Sea. Istanbul, which straddles Europe and Asia. The capital of Turkey is Ankara and the official language is Turkish. Tulips have originated from here. Also, the Santa Claus or St Nicholas was born in this country.

33. United Arab Emirates

The United Arab Emirates also called Emirates is a Western Asian country located at the eastern end of the Arabian Peninsula. It has land borders with Oman and Saudi Arabia and has maritime borders in the Persian Gulf with Qatar and Iran. The capital of UAE is Abu Dhabi and the official language is Arabic. This country is with a lot of world records like the Largest Mall- The Dubai Mall, Largest Airport Terminal, Tallest Building- The Burj Khalifa, and Tallest Chocolate Sculpture.UAE has a desert with a flower garden right in the middle and is covered with unique floral sculptures. The Dubai Mall has a 155 million-year-old dinosaur fossil known as the “The Dubai Dino”.

34. Yemen

Yemen is officially called the Republic of Yemen. It is a country at the southern end of the Arabian Peninsula in Western Asia. It is bordered by Saudi Arabia to the north, the Red Sea to the west, the Gulf of Aden and Guardafui Channel to the south, and Oman to the east. The capital of Yemen is Sana’a and the official language is Arabic. Yemen is a country which was known as “The Happy Land” and is home to the world’s oldest skyscraper city. 

The flag of Yemen consists of three horizontal bands of equal width, red on the top, white in the middle, and black on the bottom.

Central Asia

Central Asia is made up of five countries: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. The population of the region is estimated to be at 75.1 million people. Until the Soviet Union’s dissolution in 1991, all of these countries were part of it. These countries have been separate sovereign states since then.

35. Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan is officially called the Republic of Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan translating as “Land of the Wanderers” is the largest landlocked country. shares land borders with Russia in the north, China in the east, and Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan in the south while also adjoining a large part of the Caspian Sea in the southwest. The capital of this country is Nur-Sultan, formerly known as Astana and the official language is Kazakh. It’s famous for black gold. It is also believed that apples originated from the hills of this place.

The national flag of the country has a gold sun with 32 rays above a soaring golden steppe eagle, both centered on a sky-blue background. The hoist side displays a national ornamental pattern called “koshkar-muiz” (the horns of the ram) in gold.

36. Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan is officially called the Kyrgyz Republic, also called Kirghizia. It is a landlocked country located in Central Asia and is bordered by Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and China. The capital of Kyrgyzstan is  Bishkek and the official language is Kyrgyz. The country is also known as “Switzerland of Central Asia”. It also has the world’s second largest high-altitude lake called Issyk Kul.

The flag of the country consists of a red field charged with a yellow sun that contains a depiction of a tunduk, the opening in the center of the roof of a yurt. The construction of the pinnacle of every Kyrgyz yurt is with three crisscrossing laths across the circular opening at the top of the yurt.

37. Tajikistan

Tajikistan is officially called the Republic of Tajikistan. It is a landlocked country bordered by Afghanistan to the south, Uzbekistan to the west, Kyrgyzstan to the north, and China to the east. The capital of Tajikistan is Dushanbe and the official language is Tajiki. Tajikistan is a country with 90% mountainous terrain inside it. This former Soviet republic has the second tallest dam in the world. It has the world’s longest glacier, leaving aside the polar glaciers. The national flag of Tajikistan consists of three horizontal stripes in red, white, and green color. In the middle of the white stripe, there is an emblem displaying a gold crown with seven stars above.

38. Turkmenistan

Turkmenistan is also known as Turkmenia. is a country in Central Asia, which is largely a desert. The country is bordered by Kazakhstan to the northwest, Uzbekistan to the north and east, Afghanistan to the southeast, Iran to the south and southwest, and the Caspian Sea to the west. It is one of the least visited countries in the world. Marv is the largest oasis city. Falling on the ancient silk route, it has many UNESCO sites. The capital city of this country, Ashgabat is a part of the Guinness Book of World Records and there is also a man-made mistake, which is the top tourist attraction of the place.

The flag has a green area with a vertical red stripe next to the hoist, with five carpet guls placed over two crossed olive tree branches; a white crescent waxing moon, characteristic for Turkish symbology and a five-pointed white star appear in a corner of the field on the fly side of the red flag.

39. Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan officially the Republic of Uzbekistan is a country in Central Asia. It is surrounded by five landlocked countries: Kazakhstan to the north; Kyrgyzstan to the northeast; Tajikistan to the southeast; Afghanistan to the south and Turkmenistan to the south-west. It is a chief producer of gold, in fact, there is one of the largest open-pit gold mines. It is a place with warm traditions and culture. The capital of this country is Tashkent.

The national flag has three horizontal stripes: blue, white, and green. The bands are divided by two thin red fimbriations on the canton, with a crescent moon and twelve stars.

40. Afghanistan

Afghanistan, also known as the “Graveyard of empires”, is a landlocked country in Asia. It is located around Central and South Asia. It shares its border with different countries in the world, Pakistan to its Eastern south, Iran to the West, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan & Uzbekistan to the North, and China to the Northeast. The capital of Afghanistan is Kabul and is the largest city in Afghanistan. Agriculture is the main source of income. The country is a leading producer of fruit, that kids love to eat, Pomegranate. 

41. Bangladesh

Bangladesh is one of the South-Asian countries in the world which is famous for its lush greenery, many rivers, and waterbodies, making this place a fertile one. The capital of Bangladesh is Dhaka, bordered by India to the West, North, and Northeast, and Myanmar to the Southeast. Earlier after the Partition, this area was known as East Pakistan, and in 1971 it became Bangladesh after gaining its independence.

42. Bhutan

Bhutan, also known as “The Kingdom of Bhutan” is the country on the Eastern edge of the Himalayas. Bhutan is famous for its monasteries and diverse landscape. The capital of Bhutan is Thimphu and the language spoke is Dzongkha. It is a land locked country bordered by many countries in the world- China to the North, India to the South,  Nepal & Bangladesh are close to Bhutan but has no land borders. Bhutan translates to “Land of the Thunder Dragon”. It is considered to be one of the happiest countries in the world and is the only carbon-negative country.

The capital of Nepal is Kathmandu and the language spoken in Nepal is Nepali. 3. Macau

Macau is called “Las Vegas of the east”. Macau is the world’s most densely populated area. Macau is also known as the Macau Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China.
